# Role Functioning

> Role functioning scale codes for ACT and Ascent surveys

**Field format:** `9(2)` -- two-digit numeric string
**Valid values:** `01`-`10`, `97`, `98`

A 10-point scale measuring role functioning, from extreme dysfunction to superior functioning.

| Code | Level |
| - | - |
| `01` | Extreme role dysfunction |
| `02` | Inability to function |
| `03` | Marginal ability to function |
| `04` | Major impairment in role functioning |
| `05` | Serious impairment in role functioning |
| `06` | Moderate impairment in role functioning |
| `07` | Mild impairment in role functioning |
| `08` | Good role functioning |
| `09` | Above average role functioning |
| `10` | Superior role functioning |
| `97` | Assessment did not occur |
| `98` | Declined to answer or don't know |
