# Race Codes

> Multi-select race classification codes for CoBHRM

**Field format:** `x(50)` -- semicolon-space delimited list of codes
**Valid values:** `01`-`05`, `96`, `98`-`99`

The `RACE` field accepts multiple values separated by `; ` (semicolon and space).

| Code | Description |
| - | - |
| `01` | American Indian/Alaskan Native |
| `02` | Asian |
| `03` | Black/African American |
| `04` | Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander |
| `05` | White/Caucasian |
| `96` | Asked but unknown |
| `98` | Declined |
| `99` | Unknown |

### Validation Rules

1. Cannot be blank, space, null, or empty
2. Each code in the delimited list must match a value from the table above
3. Codes `96`, `98`, and `99` should generally be used alone (not combined with substantive race codes)
