# Substance Use Codes

> Substance use classification codes for CoBHRM SUD records

**Field format:** `9(2)` -- two-digit numeric string
**Valid values:** `00`-`24`, `26`-`29`, `97`

Used for Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Substance Use fields.

| `00` | None (valid only for differential assessment) |
| `01` | Alcohol |
| `02` | Barbiturate |
| `03` | Benzodiazepine tranquilizer |
| `04` | Clonazepam |
| `05` | Other sedatives/hypnotic |
| `06` | Other tranquilizer |
| `07` | Cocaine Hydrochloride/crack |
| `08` | Methamphetamine |
| `09` | Other amphetamine |
| `10` | Other stimulants |
| `11` | Heroin |
| `12` | Non Rx Methadone |
| `13` | Other Opiates/synthetic opiates |
| `14` | Marijuana/hashish |
| `15` | LSD |
| `16` | PCP |
| `17` | Other hallucinogens |
| `18` | Inhalant |
| `19` | Over the counter drug |
| `20` | Flunitrazepam |
| `21` | Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, gamma-butyrolactone (GHB/GBL) |
| `22` | Ketamine |
| `23` | Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) |
| `24` | Anabolic Steroid |
| `26` | Buprenorphine |
| `27` | Nicotine |
| `28` | Fentanyl |
| `29` | Xylazine |
| `97` | Other |

> Code `25` is not assigned. The sequence skips from `24` to `26`.

> Code `27` (Nicotine) **cannot** be used as the Primary Substance Use. It is valid only for Secondary or Tertiary.
